Introduction
This case study details the design and development of a new e-commerce website for CAMS Boutique, a local women's and children's wear and imitation jewelry store in Thane. The goal was to create a visually appealing and user-friendly online presence to complement their existing brick-and-mortar store and reach a wider audience.
- Project Name: CAMS Boutique Website UI Design
- Role: UX/UI Designer
- Duration: June 06, 2025 - June 12, 2025

- Tools Used: Figma
Problem Statement
CAMS Boutique had a strong offline presence but lacked a digital platform. This meant they were missing out on a significant portion of potential customers in the increasingly online-focused market. Their existing customer base relied on word-of-mouth and in-person visits, limiting their reach and growth potential. The lack of an online store hindered their ability to showcase their trendy, ethnic, and budget-friendly collection to a wider audience.
Objectives and Goals
The primary objective was to create a user-friendly website that accurately reflected CAMS Boutique's brand identity and allowed customers to easily browse and purchase products online. Key success metrics included increased user engagement (measured by pages viewed per session and time spent on-site), reduced bounce rate, and improved product visibility. Qualitative feedback on aesthetic appeal and ease of navigation was also considered.
Research and Insights
User research involved creating a user persona based on observations of existing customers and market trends. This persona helped define the target audience's needs and preferences. Competitive analysis focused on identifying best practices in online boutique design and understanding the competitive landscape. This research informed design decisions, ensuring the website was both visually appealing and easy to navigate for the target audience.
To build a user-friendly and visually compelling e-commerce website for CAMS Boutique, research was conducted to understand user behavior, pain points, and expectations when shopping online especially for clothing and accessories.
What I Did:
I began with a competitive analysis of similar local and national clothing websites to study their structure, category presentation, and product flow. I then observed common UI patterns across platforms like Globaldesi, FirstCry, Meesho, and LimeRoad. A user behavior survey was also conducted among 20–25 potential users, mainly women and parents, to gather insights into how they shop online, what matters to them while browsing, and what frustrates them.
Why I Did It:
Understanding customer preferences—such as filter usage, trust factors (images, reviews), and mobile responsiveness—helped shape the design priorities. It also revealed gaps, such as cluttered layouts or lack of personalization, which I aimed to improve in the CAMS design.
Key Findings:
Users value clean categorization (e.g., Women, Kids, Jewelry) with images that clearly show variety. Discounts and offers influence clicks, so highlighting them was crucial. People prefer quick filtering options like price range, age group, and outfit type. Many expect wish list and easy login/signup for repeat visits. These findings directly influenced the structure of the homepage, collection pages, and product display strategy. The insights ensured that the site not only looked great but functioned intuitively.
User Persona
Priya Mahajan is a busy, fashion-conscious working professional from Thane who values a fast, easy-to-navigate, and trustworthy online shopping experience for kids and ladies wear as well as imitation jewelry.
Ideation and Concept Development
The design process started with wireframing, focusing on intuitive navigation and clear product presentation. High-fidelity mockups were then created in Figma, incorporating a clean, modern aesthetic with a focus on visual hierarchy and easy-to-use filtering options. A soft color palette and high-quality product photography were used to reflect the brand's identity. Throughout the process, feedback was gathered and incorporated to refine the design and improve usability.
Design Process
The design process followed a user-centered approach, with wireframing and prototyping used to iterate on design decisions. User testing was conducted to evaluate usability and gather feedback. Iterations were made based on user feedback to improve navigation, information architecture, and overall user experience. The final design focused on clarity, simplicity, and visual appeal to ensure an enjoyable shopping experience.
Challenges and Solutions
The main challenge was designing for a semi-digital audience—users comfortable with technology but not necessarily experts. This was addressed by using familiar UI patterns, clear visual cues, and straightforward calls to action. Simplicity was prioritized to make the website accessible and easy to use for everyone.
Final Outcome
The final design is a clean, modern, and user-friendly e-commerce website that effectively showcases CAMS Boutique's collection. The responsive design ensures a seamless experience across various devices. Clear category filtering, high-quality product images, and an intuitive checkout process make shopping easy and enjoyable. The website successfully reflects the boutique's brand identity while providing a positive user experience.
Learnings and Reflections
This project reinforced the importance of user-centered design and iterative development. The experience highlighted the value of understanding the specific needs and preferences of the target audience when designing for diverse demographics. The focus on simplicity and clarity proved crucial in creating a user-friendly experience for a less tech-savvy audience. In future projects, I will continue to prioritize user research and testing to ensure design solutions meet the needs of the end-users.
Conclusion
The CAMS Boutique website UI successfully addressed the client's need for a strong online presence. The design not only enhances the brand image but also provides a seamless shopping experience, increasing the potential for online engagement and business growth. Future steps include integrating the design with an e-commerce platform and launching a comprehensive marketing campaign to attract new customers.
